5/10 Capstone Project - Issue #3 - Improving Students Academics
For special educators, there's a lot of different tasks needed into this field that a lot of educators don't have. For them, the time to create new curriculums and doing all the work for themselves is already hard enough to deal with. However, their biggest challenge of all is their purpose of becoming a special educator. Which leads us to our final issue, improving students academics.
SWD, students with disabilities are considered a difficult task for not only the educators but to the parents as well. When a parent decides to choose an educator to teach their child they're expecting great results. For the educator that puts a lot of pressure on them to try and improve these students academic performances. If these educators manage to pull it off then they'll get the appreciation and respect of being called a teacher. However, if students academic performance doesn't approve then parents will be the most frustrated because they trusted these educators to help their child and they'll lose a large percentage of that bonding relationship if the parents realized that the educator is not putting enough effort into their child.
Often enough the amount of effort and hard work put into helping these students leads to major frustrations and disappointments. This is rather relatable to most if not all educators because each student are functioned and taught differently and doing an individual 1v1 with them every day requires a lot of energy and attention. If students don't learn anything then their success rate of going to high school or college will be very slim.
Another thing to point out toward improving students academics is their location. If this were to take place in a low-income location then special educators would stress out more frequently because some of their students only probably have one life to make a difference for them-self and family. Education is considered a lifeline for everyone and if an SWD is not able to learn how to read or write within a few years of taking special education then they'll have to transfer in hoping that someone who's more experienced in the field can contribute.
