3/10 Capstone Project - Issue #1 Curriculum

     For special educators coming into their first years, they're met with each individual students and learn that each one is taught differently based on their learning disability or mentally challenging state. However, in order to improve each student individually, they must be provided with their own unique learning material and pacing. This would require special educators to make their own curriculum from the skill sets they've learned from their academics. This would lead to the first main issues that special educators deal within their first few years of teaching.



    In education, teachers receive a curriculum that is often provided to help teach students what to learn at what period of time. Unfortunately, the curriculum that is given to teachers are mainly towards general education standards, not for special education standards. Often enough special educators have to create their own curriculum from scratch without any resources and help given to them. In order to understand how to create a curriculum, this would require a lot of learning about the type of students they have and what type of skill sets they've already learned. However, the time to create a single curriculum for a single student who may learn something out of this without first publicly testing would take weeks or possibly months. Not to mention that creating a curriculum would require approval and making sure that this is safe to use.



     What's interesting about curriculums is that they're given the wrong impressions as an amazing learning technique. In curriculums, there's a lot of flaws that can easily be spotted out which may have importance or is misplaced in order. Another thing that a lot of educators mistaken is that the curriculum is not about the material required to help students learn. For example something like saying it's not about investing a big amount of money, but being smart in the way you use your money. This example contrast to the curriculums in today's school system that includes a lot of important topics, but not everything will able to remember and each person has their own interest in various sub-topics and subjects.
